Digital Addiction: When Technology Becomes Too Much
What's a Parent Workshop?
Every parent wants to be a better parent; sometimes, we just don’t know if we’re doing it right. The goal of Parent Workshops is to bring families together to create a community where we can grow as parents, share resources and tools, and have conversations on topics that impact our kids today.
What Is This Workshop About?
Technology is a big deal. Probably a bigger deal than we as parents even realize. In this parent workshop, our hope is to provide facts and data about the dangers and pitfalls of technology. We will discuss the effects that it is having on this generation and provide some practical steps that families can take to address the root issues behind the symptoms of an unhealthy relationship with technology.
But don’t worry, there is hope! Our goal is for families to walk away with the tools they need to create a strategy to help their kids maintain a healthy relationship with technology and with Jesus. This information will be valuable for any parent to know, but we specifically recommend this workshop to parents of 4th-12th graders.
What Will the Evening Look Like?
The night will consist of a conversation with Drs. Kevin and Lindsey Nieman about technology, guided by our moderator for the evening, Angie Woods. We will touch on the dangers and pitfalls of technology, the impact that it has on the brain, and the importance of parent involvement and leadership when it comes to technology in the home. We will end the night with a Q & A and give each parent some take home material including resources, tools, and notes from the night.
What Do I Do with My Kids?
We will be offering childcare for children ages 5-12. If you would like to utilize this, make sure to select a ticket with the childcare option. Childcare is only an additional $5 per family. We will only be able to serve those families who have preregistered. Cheese pizza will be provided. Due to allergies, we will not allow any other food in the classrooms. If your child is unable to eat pizza, please make other arrangements for them to eat before the event.
